On September 16, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reviewed the progress of construction work at the New Shusha Mosque.
Assistant to the President Anar Alakbarov informed the head of state and the President of the United Arab Emirates about the ongoing work. It should be noted that the foundation of this mosque, laid in 2021 by President Ilham Aliyev, will stand out as an example of modern architecture in the historic city of Shusha. In accordance with the instruction of the head of state, the design of the mosque will reflect the number 8, symbolizing Victory Day — the day Shusha was liberated from occupation. As a symbol of Shusha and Karabakh being liberated in the 11th month of the year, the mosque will have two minarets shaped like the number 11. The exterior surface of this place of worship, built in the upper part of the city, will be decorated with geometric patterns used in the minarets of Shusha’s ancient mosque.
