The 3rd National Urban Planning Forum is taking place in Khankendi.
On October 15, the 3rd National Urban Planning Forum commenced in the city of Khankendi. The forum is being held under the theme “Towards climate-resilient and healthy cities: regional partnerships and innovative solutions.” Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, Anar Guliyev, read out President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the participants.
The event is attended by representatives of public and private institutions from more than 60 countries, as well as delegates from international organizations, academic institutes, and civil society—up to 400 participants in total.
Speaking at the forum, Aydin Karimov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, spoke about the implementation of major infrastructure projects in Shusha, noting that 45 buildings will be constructed and delivered by early 2027 and that construction has already begun. More than 800 apartments will be put into operation, and nearly 3,000 people will be resettled in these homes.
Afterwards, the forum participants became acquainted with the central square of the historic and ancient Azerbaijani city of Shusha, the fortress walls, the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, and the New Residential Complex. Aydin Karimov briefed the guests on the history of Shusha, its condition during the occupation, the reconstruction works carried out under the supervision of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, the restoration of historical monuments, and the plans envisaged.
